Onward and Upward

Two weeks into 2012 and Automata is going at full steam tackling this year’s projects, and fortunately there are more of us cogs to get us there…

We would like to welcome TzongHao Chen to our team!  TzongHao started on Monday and is already wowing us with his skills.  For those keeping track, that’s the third person in the last six months to join us, roughly doubling the size of the company.  We are all very excited.

2011 was a great year, filled with incredible clients and interesting projects. Here is a list of some of the things we did:

  • IBM Watson – Probably our most visible project of the year, a collaboration with Josh Davis Studios.
  • Barnes and Noble Nook – Vying for most visible project is our work on the Nook’s kid reader in both the Nook Color and the Nook Tablet.
  • Star.me - A concept developed by the Internet’s Ze Frank
  • LA Plaza – La Plaza de Cultura y Artes, a museum which opened in April 2011 celebrating Mexican American history and culture in Los Angeles, CA.  We teamed with Apologue to create the generative art shown on the information screens at the Center.
  • Glass is Life – Again with Josh Davis Studios, we created an interesting and fun visualization tool. It’s on Facebook, too!
  • Timberland Kiosks – With Apologue, we developed interactive kiosks for use in Timberland stores.  There aren’t any pics online yet, but you can see them in some stores right now.
  • Samsung Smart TV – Working with The Mill, we built this tool for Samsung to show off their new Smart TVs.
  • The World in 2012 – Pictures of Tomorrow Challenge - Back in the interactive screen world, we built a visualizer with Apologue for a contest run by The Economist and sponsored by Qualcomm.
  • CCO mCRC tool – Adding to the collection of tools we have built for Clinical Care Options, for this tool we used HTML5 instead of Flash
  • inPractice Android – Also for CCO, we developed the Android version of their popular and useful inPractice Application.

Our 2012 is already filling up with cool projects that we can’t wait to tell you about.
